Community Post: Giochiamoci APS, the association that makes gaming a right for all

In Milan, at Via Federico De Roberto 5, a reality was born in 2025 that is changing the way we experience gaming: Giochiamoci!


The name itself is a declaration of intent, an enthusiastic response to those who, faced with a disability, are too often told,"It's impossible, it's complicated ." The association turns this perspective on its head and chooses the simplest, most inclusive, and most powerful path:let's play with it!


Play as a social and cultural tool

The association's mission is clear: to harness the socializing power of play to break down barriers between people with and without disabilities, creating moments of play accessible to all.

The underlying problem is real: gaming opportunities for people with disabilities, especially in board games and live gaming, are rare. This deprives many of a crucial social connection. The association is committed to changing this situation by focusing on equity, accessibility, and joy as its core values.


A story that starts from a personal experience

The idea originated with Greta Carrara, president and blind since birth. After encountering yet another inaccessible escape room, she decided, along with a group of friends passionate about board games and video games, to create a fully inclusive one. From that moment, the vision broadened: to build an accessible gaming culture.


Activities: escape rooms, accessible kits and much more

Let's Play! doesn't just organize events, it creates tools so others can do the same: inclusive escape rooms, kits for making board games accessible, role-playing activities, participation in trade shows, and collaborations with industry players and associations.

And accessibility, they emphasize, is never definitive: it's a work in progress. Events are adapted and improved based on the people they meet.


The iconic project: The Old Laboratory

The association's first escape room is a traveling success: a Cold War-themed game, brought to libraries and events in cities like Bologna, Brescia, Bergamo, and Pavia. It is accessible to the blind, wheelchair users, and autistic people. Work is already underway to extend it to the deaf and those with cognitive disabilities.

With over 200 people involved , it becomes concrete proof that you can play together, as equals, even in complex contexts like an escape room.


Results and social impact

Let's Play! is building a community: people with disabilities participate in events, experience gaming as a way to relax and socialize, and are already asking when they'll be playing again.

There are testimonies of people who, despite difficulties and inexperience, return to events because they experience them as spaces of hope and fun. A young woman with autism helped improve a puzzle by reporting sensory overload: a valuable collaboration for continued growth.


Looking to the future

The association's upcoming challenges include completing new projects, such as a pirate-themed escape room and the adaptation of classic board games. But above all, networking with those who want to innovate in the gaming and disability world.

Digital will play a crucial role: it allows for customization, flexibility, and new tools to make gaming increasingly accessible. Therefore, Giochiamoci! is looking for programmers to support new technological developments.


The message

The association launches a simple yet radical challenge: let's start designing with accessibility as an integral part of every experience, not as a luxury option. And it advocates a principle that should be universal:

“Playing is also everyone’s right.”
