Drawing up a list of the most accessible video games of 2024 is no easy feat, especially after Microsoft introduced the Xbox Adaptive Controller to the market back in 2018: a breakthrough that raised the bar for expectations regarding video game accessibility.
Since then, the industry's focus on " gaming for all " has grown exponentially, leading developers to integrate inclusive solutions from the earliest stages of game design. In this article, I've chosen to highlight games that have stood out for their commitment to inclusivity, while recognizing that each specific need deserves a dedicated and personalized analysis.
The Evolution of Accessibility in Gaming
Nowadays, evaluating the accessibility of a game requires a herculean effort, as there are several aspects to consider that concern a vast audience of players with different disabilities, all of which are visual, auditory, motor or cognitive, which require modifications that affect text adjustments, customizable controls, filters for color blindness and support for text-to-speech .
I will therefore try to point out the 5 games of 2024 that I found most interesting in terms of accessibility, specifying from the outset that it is impossible to include every form of disability in a short article, therefore I will limit myself to the general characteristics of each product.
Another aspect I want to underline is that not all of the games reported were among the nominees for the Innovation Accessibility category at The Game Awards 2024 , this is because I think that the best ones are not always chosen.
The world of gaming is so vast that compiling an annual accessibility ranking is a challenge even for industry experts.
The 5 Most Accessible Games of 2024
Astro Bot (PS5)
Winner of Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2024 , it is designed to be inclusive, with intuitive gameplay suitable for players of all ages and skill levels. It offers simple controls, a clear interface, and customization options that make it accessible even for those with motor or cognitive disabilities. Its 3D platforming nature is fluid and not overly complex, with a scalable difficulty level.
The Last of Us Part II Remastered (PS5)
Although it is a re-release, this 2024 version strengthens the already excellent accessibility options of the original title (editor's note: I had already talked about The Last of Us Part II, considered by the press as the most accessible game ever ).
Includes color blindness support (filters for Protanopia , Deuteranopia , Tritanopia ), HUD scaling, contrast adjustment, text-to-speech , and features to avoid falls or simplify puzzles.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6
It stands out as one of the most accessible titles in the Call of Duty series and it couldn't be otherwise, given that it is the first title to be produced after Microsoft's acquisition, from this point of view it has been able to benefit from the experience of the Xbox team.
The game stands out from the rest with innovative features such as asymmetric hearing compensation for players with single-sided hearing loss, an improved High Contrast Mode (now available in Campaign and Zombies modes) with customizable colored outlines for allies and enemies, and a “ Dark Background ” option for those with vision impairments.
For players with motor disabilities, the game features Intelligent Movement , a series of options designed to simplify movement and make it more intuitive and immediate by automating actions that would otherwise require pressing a button. These options include: Sprint Assist, Mantle Assist, Crouch Assist, and Corner Slice .
On mobility, if that's not enough, we have full support for adaptive controllers: the Xbox Adaptive Controller and the Sony Access Controller .
Customizable HUD presets to minimize visual clutter, an arachnophobia option to change the appearance of spider-like enemies in Zombies mode, and the ability to pause and save single-player games in Zombies.
Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 (Xbox Series
It offers interface scaling, color blindness filters, and field of view adjustments. The slow gameplay makes it suitable for those with motor difficulties.
Accessibility has improved over time thanks to updates from the development team, which have made a complex and feature-rich simulator more usable.
Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown
Finally, I couldn't conclude without mentioning Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown , which stood out in the 2024 gaming landscape by winning the Innovation in Accessibility award at The Game Awards 2024 .
This recognition demonstrates the developers' attention to accessibility, having implemented a range of options designed to meet the needs of all types of players.
The title offers customizable control settings, numerous visual and audio options dedicated to people with disabilities, and a series of aids that facilitate navigation, understanding levels and solving puzzles, without compromising the quality of the gaming experience.
Another key element concerns the simplification of Quick Time Events (QTEs), those animated sequences where you have to press a series of buttons in rapid succession to progress in the game: these sequences, often included in games for their high degree of spectacularization, constitute a serious obstacle for those with motor or cognitive difficulties.
Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown thus represents a virtuous example of how an action-platformer can be made accessible, inclusive and appreciated by an increasingly wider audience.
Quick tips for evaluating an accessible game:
💡 Practical tip
QTE sequences can be a hindrance. Choose games that allow you to disable or simplify them.

Reflections and future prospects
The growing focus on accessibility in the gaming world demonstrates a positive and necessary shift. Studios and developers are finally recognizing the value of inclusive gaming experiences, capable of welcoming a diversity of players that goes far beyond traditional standards.
These five titles exemplify how accessible and inclusive gaming can be. For further insights and opinions, I invite you to write to me directly on the blog.
