Pill 21 - Build The Earth: Rebuilding the world in Minecraft as a collective experiment

A group of Minecraft players, united in the Build the Earth project, have rebuilt Manhattan to a 1:1 scale, building by building. It took five years. Not just for show: five years of real, continuous work. The result was revealed in January by YouTuber MineFact. The level of detail is obsessive: balconies, windows, even flowerpots, inspected one by one on Google Street View. Inside are the World Trade Center, Tribeca, Chinatown, Little Italy. Brooklyn and Queens are on their way, thanks to community contributions. Initially, Manhattan was flat; elevation data was missing. The elevations were reconstructed by hand, digital meter by meter.
