PlayStation Portal is changing again: with the latest update, we can finally play the games we have in our digital library without having to own or turn on a PlayStation 5.

What is PlayStation Portal?

With its 8-inch Full HD (1080p) display and a built -in controller inspired by the DualSense design , PlayStation Portal is a device dedicated to streaming PlayStation 5 games via Wi-Fi and a PlayStation Plus Premium subscription .

Released last November 2023, Sony's portable console was conceived as an accessory for the PlayStation 5 and was criticized by users for this very reason: to play, it was necessary to keep the console on in Remote Play, and if it suddenly shut down, it would immediately interrupt the game. Since then, the PlayStation Plus Premium cloud streaming service has received several updates that have made it increasingly independent from the main console .

What's new in the new update

With the latest update to version 6.0.0 and the new cloud streaming update , Portal takes a step forward: now, thanks to PlayStation Plus Premium, it is possible to stream both the titles contained within the aforementioned subscription and the titles in your library , without physically owning a PS5 . The Remote Play function between PlayStation 5 and Portal remains active.

The update also includes accessibility options.

The new update also concerns some accessibility features included in cloud streaming that can be activated on Ps Portal such as

  • the screen reader

  • text enlargement

  • Spatial audio for compatible devices in the PlayStation ecosystem, such as the Pulse Explorer or Pulse Elite

These options make the experience more accessible for people with visual or hearing impairments, and represent a step forward in Sony's journey towards more inclusive gaming.

And you?
