Marvel's Wolverine: Humanity and Ferocity – all the new details revealed at Comic-Con

Marvel’s Wolverine continues to reveal new details following its September 15 release on PlayStation 5. After the Story Trailer shown at San Diego Comic-Con, new behind-the-scenes details have emerged about the work of Liam McIntyre, the actor portraying Logan. To bring out the mutant’s more ferocious side, the actor revealed that he even drew inspiration from animal behavior, pushing himself into an area of performance he had not explored since his days at acting school.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, McIntyre explained that the team at Insomniac Games wanted to portray a “feral Logan”, representing Wolverine at his wildest and most uncontrollable when he enters his iconic berserker state. To prepare for the role, the actor watched footage of dogs suffering from rabies and worked extensively on the character’s more animalistic side.
The experience was not an easy one. When he arrived on set for the motion-capture sessions, he worried that his approach might be too extreme. In the end, however, his performance convinced the developers, who reportedly described it as simply “terrifying.”

According to Narrative Director Walt Williams, the goal was not to turn the famous mutant into a caricature, but to tell the story of a deeply troubled man. Logan is described as one of the most human characters in the entire Marvel universe: someone born different and forced to live with decades of pain, anger, and guilt, all of which coexist with a deeply altruistic heart.
This duality is also at the heart of Marvel’s Wolverine, which is set in a version of the Marvel universe where the X-Men do not yet exist. Mutants live in the shadows and are feared by society, while Logan operates as part of Team X, a special-operations group dedicated to protecting their kind.

The new Story Trailer shown at San Diego Comic-Con reflects this internal conflict. Alongside a tense confrontation with Jean Grey, the trailer introduces the Hand as one of the game’s main enemy factions and confirms Lady Deathstrike as one of the adventure’s central antagonists. During the panel, Insomniac Games also unveiled new official artwork depicting Wolverine facing off against the criminal organization’s ninjas.
Another announcement was a collaboration with Arc System Works. Wolverine’s costume from MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls will be unlockable in Marvel’s Wolverine simply by progressing through the story from day one. Meanwhile, Insomniac’s Battle Reborn costume will also be coming to the fighting game for free starting September 1.

The panel also confirmed that the soundtrack was composed by award-winning composer David Fleming, while players looking to explore the events leading up to the main campaign can read a prequel comic written by Walt Williams, now available through Marvel Unlimited.
Alongside these new story details, Insomniac Games has also confirmed an extensive suite of accessibility features, designed to allow more players to experience Logan’s adventure. We covered these features in a dedicated article. The game will offer numerous options for customizing the experience, including remappable controls, audio and subtitle settings, readability options, and gameplay assists, continuing the work the studio has done in previous Marvel’s Spider-Man titles.

Following what was shown at Comic-Con, Insomniac Games’ objective appears increasingly clear: not simply to create a brutal action game, but to tell the most human and vulnerable version of Wolverine, without sacrificing the ferocity that has made the character one of the most beloved mutants in Marvel Comics history.
