Insomniac Reveals Marvel's Wolverine's Accessibility and Violence Balance

The State of Play presentation, held during the Summer Game Fest week, was kicked off with a long introductory gameplay trailer for Insomniac's new Marvel IP: a single-player experience combining brutality and a linear story.

Insomniac continues to focus on accessibility

Insomniac Games has detailed the key accessibility features that will be available in Marvel's Wolverine from launch, confirming an even richer level of customization than in the studio's previous games. Among the most interesting new features is a section dedicated to customizing violence , which will allow you to reduce or disable the most explicit elements of the experience, tailoring the game to each user's preferences.

The studio reiterated that accessibility is a fundamental part of its development process and that the game will offer dedicated tools for players with motor, visual, hearing, and cognitive disabilities. Most options will be available at launch, while some features will be made available via a day-one patch, as indicated by Insomniac, for the physical version of the game.

Dedicated presets and interface customization

Among the most significant settings are the presets, now present in many titles, dedicated to mobility, vision, hearing, and motion sensitivity , as well as the ability to change the size of interface text, icons, and on-screen indicators. It will also be possible to customize the colors of various HUD elements, activate a voice reader for menus and notifications, use mono audio, improve dialogue clarity, and adjust numerous visual effects such as motion blur , film grain, and bright flashes.

Fully customizable gameplay

The studio behind the latest Marvel video games has also paid considerable attention to gameplay options, allowing players to adjust the challenge level, enemy health, the speed at which opponents spot Logan during stealth , and the behavior of the automatic lock-on system. There will also be audio indicators for exploration, dedicated vibrations to aid orientation, and the option to skip certain puzzles using a dedicated option.

Among the most interesting additions are new options dedicated to customizing the experience. It will be possible to slow down the entire game by up to 30% or apply slowdown exclusively to combat and stealth phases. Also available will be the automatic completion of Quick Time Events and the new Navigation Assist, which shows a path to the objective and can automatically orient the camera to facilitate exploration.

The balance of violence

One of the features that has attracted the most attention, however, concerns the management of violence . Despite being a title designed to represent all the brutality of Wolverine, Insomniac will allow players to customize the more explicit elements of gore, even turning them off completely. This choice will make the experience more accessible even to those who prefer a less marked level of violence.

Marvel's Wolverine will arrive exclusively on PlayStation 5 on September 15, 2026 , with pre-orders now available. Following the extensive gameplay shown during June's State of Play, these new features further demonstrate Insomniac Games' commitment to accessibility, an aspect the studio considers an integral part of its development process.
